EXOSKELETON

Senior Collection

EXOSKELETON is a conceptual collection intended for a bold woman who wants her clothes to serve as a bold statement, even when she sometimes isn’t so sure of herself. She often encompasses duality, embracing many opposites to create a cohesive being. She is powerful and passionate, and this is reflected through her clothes.

The EXOSKELETON consumer is an activist and advocate for mental health and sexuality. The progression of color shown from look to look represents the muse coming into her full personality and becoming comfortable with herself. The garments within this collection serve as her exoskeleton so that she doesn’t have to worry about being comfortable in her clothes; she can focus on being comfortable with herself. EXOSKELETON creates a powerful exterior for her to wear in order to feel confident and empowered so that she can outwardly present the best version of her identity.

TEXTILE DESIGN PROJECT

Paris American Academy - 2018

For this project, I was challenged with using an unconventional material to create a textile design. I used strips of magazine pages to create paper beads. With these paper beads, I wired them together to create cap sleeves. I then fastened the cap sleeves to a tunic style dress.

COURRÈGES DRESS DESIGN

Paris American Academy - 2018

In my Haute Couture Techniques class at the Paris American Academy, I created a custom dress following Andrè Courrèges' design. I adjusted the garment to fit my measurements and used various couture techniques. The garment features techniques such as hand basting, hand sewing, bias tape manipulation, and a hand-picked zipper.

AVH DRAPING PROJECT

Paris American Academy - 2018

Inspired by Anne Valerie Hash, I was prompted to drape a design on a half-scale mannequin using a second-hand tailored jacket. After choosing a design, I began to drape the design, large-scale using muslin toile. Once draped, I properly marked the muslin so that in the future I would be able to easily recreate the design using fashion fabric. In addition to the drawings, I created a portfolio showcasing the design process.

19TH CENTURY CORSET

Paris American Academy - 2018

In my Costume Research Class, I learned to create a custom 19th Century Corset from mathematically drafting the pattern to my measurements, to adding boning, to fitting the garment, to adding the busc closure, to adding the bias tape, to adding the metallic eyes and laces.

TAILORED JACKET

Paris American Academy - 2018

In my Tailoring class, I created a half jacket sample showcasing French Tailleur techniques such as picotage, a hand stitching method that helps the lapel of the jacket to roll naturally.

"CRIMSON"

University of Delaware - 2016

For my Apparel Structures class, I created this skirt and shirt look using a textile print I created from my own artwork. The top features sleeves with added fullness and pleating, a collar, cuffs, and a placket. The skirt features dart manipulation with piping encased in the seams and an asymmetrical hem.

"HELP WANTED"

Scholastic Art and Writing Awards - Gold Key - 2014

This garment was created for the 2014 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards competition. It won a Gold Key at the regional judging, and advanced on to national judging. I draped a shift dress, added a front center panel using exposed French seams, and individually sewed 2" x 4" panels of muslin to the garment. After the dress was assembled, I dip-dyed it in tea. All edges, aside from front panel French seams, were left unfinished for a frayed look.

"LACEY WINDOW"

2014

This dress was constructed following a commercial pattern for my high school junior year prom. This was my first attempt working with a silky fabric, and I hand stitched the lace back, along with 32 buttons and bridal loop for the back closure.

"GRANNY PANTIES"

Scholastic Art and Writing Awards - Honorable Mention - 2014

I created this up-cycled garment at a Pre-College course at the University of the Arts. I designed and constructed a pair of ruffled high-waisted shorts using up-cycled fabric from an oversized muumuu found at Goodwill. The shorts feature an exposed zipper, slot seams at the sides, and pleated trim at the waistband and pant legs.
